"Never Bet on a Three-Legged Horse..."

Tips come in many forms. The one in the title is a bit of a "no-brainer"; I am really looking for some other, more useful tips. Many of you who follow this blog have now had the surgery. I need to plan for the changes I will face and would appreciate any input. Here are my questions:

1. How long was it before you felt ready to return to work/ normal life? Was time to get used to lifestyle changes part of your decision?

2. What is the biggest challenge after surgery and how did you manage it?

3. What do I drink/ eat? I am curious about the many products sold at the hospital What do you recommend? Are there products in Canada that you have found to be satisfying and tasty?

Thanks!

David

  1. Hi David!
I am 5 weeks post-op and have just returned to my regular work schedule in the last few days - mind you I had a bout of pneumonia and laryngitis slow me down last week too. Because of my cough I am still not up to snuff in the exercise department, but that is slowly improving.
My biggest challenge has been getting my protein in. The protein shakes are just the nastiest things ever for the most part! Before surgery if I heard that I would say (to myself) "suck it up princess!" but believe me it is just not that easy. I am allergic to eggs and shrimp which a lot of people use as mainstays, so that too makes it tougher. Change is never easy though - that is why they show us "before and after" but not "during" This too shall pass and soon I'll be well on my way.
My best advice is to buy 1 of the sample bags at Barix and then take notes on what you like and dislike. Your tastes and smells certainly change after the surg. I find the Profect protein bullets are great as you can just add them to juice and they go down great.
I haven't done much shopping in Canada yet, but am going tomorrow and will let you know if I find anything of note.
    All the best!
    Gail
